Christingle @ Home

Dear all,

With Advent and Christmas approaching, I am very excited to announce that the Alive@5 team will be hosting a Christingle at Home Service on Sunday 13th December at 5pm, by Zoom. The service will last no longer than an hour, and along with the usual fun, games, prayer, and songs, we will be making Christingles together and supporting the work of the Children’s Society. The flyer for the service is attached below.

If you would like to join us, please sign up by emailing families@stwilfridsparish.com by Sunday 6th December. We will then send you more details about the service, including what you will need to have with you. We will also send out the Zoom invitation for the service to you a couple of days before we meet.

We look forward to celebrating with you then!

With all blessings,

Rev Rob and the Alive@5 Team

Church of England Prayer for the week: 16th November 2020

Loving Father God, be with us in our distress;
be with our families, friends, and neighbours,
our country and our world.

Give health to the sick,
hope to the fearful,
and comfort to mourners.

Give wisdom to our frontline and key workers,
insight to our Government,
and patience to us all.

Overcome disease with the power of your new life,
through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Making Advent Special 2020

Making Advent special

You might want to engage with a ‘Retreat in Daily Life’ as a way of marking Advent when, as we look back on the year, and begin a new Christian calendar, so much has been uncertain

Here is an invitation to join in a Retreat in Daily Life by

·       skype,

·       facetime

·       zoom

·       whataspp

·       or phone.

This involves the retreatant committing ideally to the following from Monday 30th November to Friday 4th December:

· At least 30 minutes of prayer each day with suggested ideas,

 · Keeping a note of what comes out of that prayer time (even if it is ‘nothing!’),

· And chatting to the Retreat Facilitator, in confidence, for up to 20 minutes each day, about the experience of prayer.

·  And a brief conversation on Advent Sunday (November 29th) to set the scene.

If you would like to find out more, or make this retreat, this journey, as you live each day at home at the beginning of Advent, please contact Rev. Roy Shaw, the Facilitator, either via 01757 212360, or via revroyshaw@protonmail.com

‘Maranatha!’ – Come, Lord Jesus!

The November edition of Connected is available to download!

I find that it’s difficult to know where we are this year. Most of the common markers are missing – Halloween, Bonfire night, Remembrance Day services are all less visible. And yet the celebration of Christmas will surely be on us very soon. The various craft groups have been working away during lockdown, and we are delighted to give some pages to them to display their wares that are for sale now. Why not take a look? But don’t take too long to decide because stocks are limited…

Revd. Hannah Suekarran writes about the passing of the seasons this month in the Dear Friends piece, and Tony Service returns to update everyone on matters in the Methodist circuit.

Revd. Pete gives thanks for the work of Claire Nutt who has passed on the baton of St Wilfrid’s churchwarden to Pat Jarvis. Mike Bunn also supplied a poem about the seasons which I’m delighted to include. Finally I have extracted some of Tony William’s images of Fayres at St Francis from years gone by.

The November Connected is available here

and earlier editions here.

St Wilfrid's Church Building Closed During Lockdown

Hello all

I am very sorry to let you know that from Thursday 5th November, with the exception of funerals, we will not be permitted to hold services in our church buildings until the end of this 2nd lockdown on 2nd December.

Whilst this has been a possibility for some time, it is, nevertheless, still a real disappointment. Obviously, we’ll keep you informed as and when the situation changes.

In the meantime, please do continue to make use of the opportunities to worship as a parish on Sundays at 10.30am on YouTube (www.BraytonParishSelby), and Zoom Morning Prayer with & Catch up on Wednesdays at 9.30am.

Alive@5 begins again today at 5pm by Zoom after a 7 months hiatus due to the pandemic. Friday Fun Club and Youth provision continues by zoom.  Pete in Touch also continues weekly on YouTube.

God surround you and fill you with the blessing of his peace.

Pete
